Parent Panel

On February 28th, fifteen parents joined the RISE students to talk about parenting and family. The kids asked questions about rules, expectations, goals, family values, and more. And the parents answered. And answered. And answered! The kids loved hearing from their parents --and their peers' parents --- with many offering that they come back at any time. One student thought that there must be a “...weird telepathic link between all parents” because the parents' answers matched so many of his parents’ expectations! We so enjoyed the visit and look forward to our late spring panel. More information coming soon!

Book Bistro

At the end of each quarter, we celebrate the reading we have accomplished by enjoying a Book Bistro. We bring in our books --and some tasty treats-- and we have book talks in small groups with others who have read similar books. After discussing books for an hour, students leave with multiple new book options for the following quarter. Over winter break, students also read a book by Sharon Draper, an award-winning author who will be joining us for Writers Week in February. Including this winter break reading, each student in RISE has read at least three 'outside books,' hopefully finding an author or genre he/she enjoys.
